Facebook appears to have redesigned the layout for searches for places in Graph Search, and the new look includes a “Text Me Directions” feature, where users can request that directions to places listed in Graph Search results be sent to their mobile phones via text message.
Facebook appears to be testing what amounts to a free mobile ad unit for publishers, with posts in users’ mobile News Feeds that closely resemble mobile application install ads, aimed at enticing users to like publishers’ pages, under the heading, “Get Interesting News.”
Those may have been the drones Facebook was looking for, but they now belong to Google. The Wall Street Journal reported that Google will acquire Titan Aerospace, a near-orbital, solar-powered drone manufacturer that the social network was reportedly in talks to acquire last month, with an eye toward using its Solara 60 unmanned aerial vehicles to help provide Internet access to unserved parts of the world, starting with Africa, as part of the Internet.org initiative.
Is Facebook getting into the electronic money business? According to a report by Financial Times, the social network is “weeks away” from Ireland granting it regulatory approval to launch a service that would allow users to store, pay with, and exchange money with other users.
