POLL: What ‘New Product’ Will Facebook Introduce Thursday?

Facebook will introduce a new product Thursday, but what will it be? Early speculation has focused on two completely unrelated products, both of which have been bandied about recently: a video-sharing service for Instagram, or a reader for RSS feeds.

Matthew Keys of The Desk reported in May that Facebook was testing a video-sharing feature for the photo-sharing network it owns, Instagram, and that it would allow users to upload videos of between five and 10 seconds from their mobile devices. This potential new Instagram feature would allow it to compete with Twitter-owned video-sharing application Vine.

On the news reader front, developer Tom Waddington spotted RSS mentions in Facebook’s code, with new entries including RSS feeds for users, with each feed having multiple entries, as well as subscriber lists. With Google Reader weeks from being shut down, this seems like a logical move for the social network.

While not getting anywhere near the buzz of the Instagram video-sharing feature theory or the RSS news reader theory, when Facebook introduced hashtags last week, it mentioned that the new feature was just the start of a process, saying:

Hashtags are just the first step to help people more easily discover what others are saying about a specific topic and participate in public conversations. We’ll continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world’s conversations.

Or could it be something entirely different?
