Qubole Debuts Presto-As-A-Service, Based On Facebook-Created Open-Source Interactive Query System

QubolePrestoAsAService650Facebook announced last November that it would open-source interactive query system Presto, and now cloud big data platform provider Qubole is taking the next step, announcing the release of its Presto-as-a-Service Alpha Program via Amazon Web Services.

Qubole said Presto-as-a-Service has been a popular request from its clients on AWS, and it will be offered alongside similar products for Hive, Hadoop, and Pig.

The interactive query system was designed by Facebook to run fast interactive analytic queries at petabyte scale, and Ravi Murthy, who manages the social network’s analytics infrastructure team, said in a release announcing the launch of Presto-as-a-Service:

We built Presto at Facebook to handle the unprecedented scale and performance challenges we face. Since open-sourcing Presto in November, we’ve seen tremendous interest from the community, and we look forward to Qubole and others adopting and building on this technology.

Qubole Vice President of Engineering Shrikanth Shankar added:

Presto will provide great value to our users, who have previously had to rely on expensive commercial technologies for fast analytics. We’re very excited to support this game-changing solution.
