Rock The Vote, PromoJam Enlist Facebook Like Button In Voter-Registration Campaign

Rock the Vote teamed up with social media promotions startup PromoJam on a digital campaign leading up to the 2012 presidential election Nov. 6, in which various tactics will be used to reach Rock the Vote’s target of registering 1.5 million voters between the ages of 18 and 29, including the ever-present Facebook like button.

QR code technology provider RedLaser, Junk Food Clothing, and Threads for Thought helped Rock the Vote and PromoJam create a Scan-To-Vote T-shirt, which launched at South by Southwest.

Potential voters can use their mobile devices to scan the QR code on the T-shirt and access a PromoJam mobile page containing educational videos about the election, Facebook like buttons, and links enabling them to register to vote. The “Scan to Vote Control Room” website also allows users to share social updates across multiple networks, download the Scan-To-Vote education action kit, and purchase the official T-shirt.

Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Google Plus are also incorporated into the campaign, and celebrities including Christina Aguilera, Pete Wentz, Perez Hilton, and Kat Graham are participating.

Rock the Vote President Heather Smith said:

We are taking action to block some of the most restrictive laws from going into effect and, together with PromoJam, we are launching new technology to help young people register to vote and give them the information they need to make their voices heard.

PromoJam Co-Founder Amanda MacNaughton added:

PromoJam has already helped dozens of big-name brands help get the results they need out of social media promotions. Now, we’re turning our attention to getting out the vote. Our goal is to show a better way that engages the youth market — and maybe even helps lawmakers challenge their outdated ways of registering the next generation of voters.
