UPDATED: Romney, Ryan Dominate Facebook-CNN Election Insights

Not surprisingly, a visit to the Facebook-CNN Election Insights tool today reveals that Gov. Mitt Romney and Rep. Paul Ryan are dominating the real-time tracker following the first day of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

People talking about Romney are up 115 percent today, following Ann Romney’s highly personal speech in primetime Tuesday night. Last night’s keynote was delivered by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who may not have helped Romney in the “talking about” area. Pundits remarked today that Christie’s speech stood out  because he sparingly mentioned Romney.

Rep. Paul Ryan, who addresses the convention audience tonight as the vice presidential nominee, is showing growth of 59 percent in the daily tracking report.

Despite a campaign trip to Iowa on Tuesday, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden’s numbers are down three and eight percent respectively as the GOP convention’s second day kicks-off.  Despite the Republican confab dominating coverage this week, Iowa was colored blue yesterday on Election Insights to highlight the president’s trip to the first-in-the-nation caucus state.

Elected officials are even tracking Election Insights. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy stopped by the Facebook workspace today at the Tampa Bay Times Forum to check out the real-time resource and upload a commemorative picture to the social network from one of the  company’s four “Photo Spots” in Tampa.

The Election Insights data is powered by the social integration platform Mass Relevance, which gives users the ability to break down the results by state, gender and age. A comments plug-in allows Facebook users to join the conversation as the election season heats up.
