Report: Salesforce.com Set To Acquire Facebook Ad-Management Provider Buddy Media

Facebook and social ad-management software provider Buddy Media acquired Facebook advertising developer Brighter Option and social commerce and analytics startup Spinback over the past year, but it may find itself on the other side of the table soon.

AllThingsD reports that online customer-relationship-management platform Salesforce.com is nearing a deal to acquire Buddy Media for more than $800 million.

Salesforce.com is no stranger to acquisitions, having scooped up Radian6 in March.

According to AllThingsD, the conventional wisdom was that if Buddy Media were acquired, the buyer would be Facebook itself or an advertising holding company, noting that WPP is already an investor in the company, but Salesforce.com will likely use Buddy Media to bolster its customer-relationship offerings.

AllThingsD added that Salesforce.com also entered the bidding for Facebook and social marketing and engagement platform Vitrue, which instead went to hardware and software giant Oracle last week.
