SecondSync To Help Facebook Analyze How Its Users Discuss TV

WatchingTVWithLaptop650In a move aimed at helping its clients better understand and analyze Facebook users’ chatter about television and TV shows, the social network announced a partnership with social TV analytics specialist SecondSync, and the two companies plan to begin delivering data about TV-related Facebook discussions in the U.S. and the U.K. later this year.

According to Facebook and SecondSync, the initial offering from the partnership will be an upcoming white paper, “Watching with Friends, which will discuss how Facebook users interact about TV in the U.S., the U.K., and Australia.

The social network said in a post on its Facebook for Business page announcing the partnership:

While there has long been a desire to understand volumes of Facebook chatter data, the challenge has been sharing this information at scale in a privacy-safe manner. Through our SecondSync partnership, we have developed a solution that enables analysis of total discussion levels on Facebook for the first time, using aggregated and anonymized data to protect user privacy.

And Facebook Head of Measurement Research and Development and Partnerships Fred Leach added:

We’re very excited to be partnering with a company of SecondSync’s caliber and to be able to share a wealth of insight with the broader industry regarding the dynamics of how people talk with their friends about TV on Facebook.
