Looking for some cool applications for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch? Perhaps your Facebook friends can help by using, ironically, an app developed for those devices: Kinetik.

Released in the iTunes App Store Tuesday, Kinetik allows users to selects apps they like, add a short comment, and share them with Facebook friends and Twitter followers.

Kinetik users can also follow friends to see what apps they have shared, and organize and browse apps by popularity, friend, or category (including games, music, and photography).

Juan Moreno, who oversees marketing and user growth for Kinetik, called the app “kind of like Yelp for apps,” and said in an email:

Kinetik empowers peer recommendations and word-of-mouth. We believe that social discovery is a dramatic shift from the current distribution models. We are not alone in this belief — 78 percent of people trust peer recommendations, and the most successful app creators attribute their success to word-of-mouth. We believe that just like music, books, and articles, people also want to share apps and get recommendations from their friends and peers.

Readers, are you more likely to download and try out an app if a friend recommends it and adds commentary?
