It’s Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg’s ‘Time’

The Sheryl Sandberg frenzy continues unabated, as Facebook’s chief operating officer is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Time, and she spoke with the magazine’s Belinda Luscombe over a three-day period for the cover story.

Sandberg also announced the formation of online community Lean In Wednesday, and her book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, will be released Monday.

Following are some highlights from Luscombe’s cover story about Sandberg:

Women are not making it to the top of any profession in the world, but when I say the blunt truth is that men run the world, people say, “Really?” That, to me, is the problem.

We have to evolve to meet new circumstances. I’d like to see where boys and girls end up if they get equal encouragement — I think we might have some differences in how leadership is done.

The data says clearly, clearly, clearly that success and likability are positively correlated for men and negatively correlated for women.

I was raised (to believe) that going into business was a bad thing. You were supposed to be a doctor or work for the government or a nonprofit.

Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Sandberg: “She built the whole business part of Facebook. I didn’t know anything about running a company. [We] knew where we wanted to get, but we were lacking someone who was a visionary at how you work at large scale.

Facebook Vice President of Product Chris Cox on Sandberg: “Some people emanate, ‘I’m a pro at what I do. And I’m such a pro that when you’re around me, you’re going to want to be more of a pro, too.’ And that’s how it felt when she showed up. I have not thought about Facebook without Sheryl. That would suck.”

Facebook VP of Engineering Mike Schroepfer on Sandberg: “Sheryl’s able to get a diverse set of people to get to a decisive position very quickly. She’s famously impatient.”
