INFOGRAPHIC: Major League Baseball Facebook Standings At Opening Of 2013 Season

The New York Yankees may be injury-plagued and off to a sluggish start to the 2013 Major League Baseball season, but when it comes to Facebook and overall social media, the club is running away with the pennant race.

Digital marketing technology provider Silverpop examined the social, mobile, and email statistics of each MLB team, and its findings included:

Overall, the Yankees were the most social team, by far, with nearly 8 million fans on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, and Instagram.

The Yankees also lapped the field in terms of Facebook fans, with 6.3 million, dwarfing its archrivals, the Boston Red Sox, who placed second with 3.8 million.

The Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, and Texas Rangers rounded out the top five, with 1.8 million, 1.7 million, and 1.5 million Facebook fans, respectively.

The Facebook cellar-dwellers were the Washington Nationals (215,000), the Arizona Diamondbacks (286,000), the Miami Marlins (304,000), the Kansas City Royals (316,000), and the Oakland A’s (372,000).
