Referring to WikiLeaks on your Facebook or Twitter profile will harm your job prospects, a member of the State Department warned students this week.
The official warned students at his alma mater, the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs, via an email from the school’s Office of Career Services on Tuesday.
Apparently linking to WikLeaks documents would make government recruiters question one’s ability to handle confidential information, the State Department Offical warned.
This seems oddly overfocused advice to give students about their use of social media in advance of a job search.
So kudos to the media spokesperson for the State Department, Philip J. Crowley, who denied that the agency was instructing its staff to tell students not to mention WikiLeaks in their online postings.
