UPDATED: Facebook To Users: Surprise Friends With Gifts

Facebook continues to try to push its Gifts feature, with Social Fresh CEO Jason Keath sharing a screen shot with sister blog Inside Facebook in which the social network pushes Gifts without a special occasion as the context.

The screen shot from Keath is from the comments section, and the message alongside the Gifts icon reads, “Surprise Ty with a gift,” but unlike previous attempts to promote Gifts, this message is not tied to a significant event or good news.

UPDATED: A source close to Facebook said the social network began a test several weeks ago on News Feed stories with signals of gift-appropriate moments, such as a high number of likes and comments, but the test was changed so that the Gifts prompt only appears for users who have liked or commented on the post, which was likely the case in the example below. The feature is still being tested.
