There’s much more to Facebook than its headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., as the social network is following up the one-year anniversary of its Boston office Tuesday with a gathering at its New York office Wednesday evening, aimed at welcoming the local tech community.
Many buildings in Manhattan walk the fine line between maintaining their lush histories and upgrading their interiors and amenities to keep up with today’s needs, and Facebook’s new office at 770 Broadway is no exception, as many of the social network’s New York-based employees found out Monday, which was moving day into the Frank Gehry-designed space.
Sources said Facebook is looking at leasing the seventh and eighth floors of a building on Broadway in New York, but it’s unclear whether or not the company is expanding its New York office or moving to this locale. Crain’s New York Business noted that Facebook has been negotiating to lease 160,000 square feet in the building, which clothing retailer J. Crew also calls home.
