Facebook Photos Come To Life At Polaroid Fotobar Stores

One of the most prominent names in the photography industry will test out a brick-and-mortar business based on photos from Facebook and other online and digital sources, as Polaroid announced at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it will open at least 10 Polaroid Fotobar stores this year.

CES Announcements All Plug Facebook, Again

Every single product announcement at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show includes a reference to Facebook.

This trend repeats what we noted about last year’s conference in Las Vegas: Announced innovations have some integration with social media, along with a Facebook page to promote the brand.

And this year CES’ exhibitor count hit a new record, roughly 3,100. Their mentions of Facebook seem all the more interesting when you consider that the show is supposed to be focued on electronic devices more than any applications.

That absence means those of us who aren’t attending the conference have to slog through media reports to find out what’s going on. What are you reading about CES and social media that’s got you most intrigued, readers?

Literally hundreds of devices have Facebook capabilities on them and demonstrations of that are dominating the vendor exhibits at the Consumer Electronics Show. The typical demo includes logging onto the social network and sharing content created on a device, downloading something from the site for use on the handheld, or combinations thereof.

CES 2009: Everyone Wants to Talk to Facebook

We covered the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), exploring trends in social media as relate to Consumer Electronics (CE). CES is the largest trade show on the planet, with over 100,000 attendees, an unending stream of newsworthy announcements and an unrivaled event party scene in Las Vegas. When reflecting back upon the week, it jumps out at us that there is an amazing level of interest the consumer electronics industry about Facebook. Generally, we were impressed with the amount of widgets and social network feeds that now reach CE devices. Big names like Yahoo!, MySpace and Twitter were active with large CE brands.

Facebook, however, seems to be holding back. Chumby and AMD were the only companies we found who integrated applications with Facebook. However, they did so via open platform APIs and not explicit business and technical partnerships.
