Aviva’s Status for Youth charity contest asked users to donate their status updates to one of four charities focused on helping young people.

The charity named in the most status updates won the largest award — Covenant House got $60,000.

The other three participating charities, Adopt-A-Classroom, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Help USA, will receive $30,000, $10,000, and $5,000, respectively, based on the number of status updates that Facebook users donated to each during the contest.

In addition to the cash awards, the charities received a boost in visibility. The contest generated more than 14,000 likes on Facebook.

Covenant House President Kevin Ryan said:

By selecting Covenant House as a partner in their Status for Youth campaign, our friends at Aviva reached out to our kids and sent a message they can never hear enough: We care and we believe in you. This generous grant of $60,000 from Aviva will reach into the lives of hundreds of kids and help them with their education and job training.
