Facebook reported 1.32 billion monthly active users as of June 30 as part of its second-quarter financial results, up from 1.276 billion at the end of the first quarter of this year, and from 1.115 billion at the end of the year-ago period. Mobile MAUs were 1.07 billion, up slightly from 1.008 billion in the previous quarter, and up dramatically from 819 million in the second quarter of 2013. And the social network’s total of mobile-only MAUs continued to grow rapidly, reaching 399 million as of June 30 after wrapping the first quarter of 2014 at 341 million and the previous-year period at 219 million.

As predicted by Adobe Social, in just its first week, 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil has already generated more Facebook interactions (posts, comments, and likes) from more users than Super Bowl XLVIII, the 2014 Winter Olympic Games, and the 86th Annual Academy Awards combined, according to the Facebook Data Science Team.
Facebook addressed duplicate and fake accounts, teen usage, and potential closing dates for its acquisitions of WhatsApp and Oculus VR in its Form 10-Q quarterly report to the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday.
Facebook topped 1 billion monthly active users in October 2012, and the social network announced another milestone in its first-quarter-2014 earnings release, as it has now surpassed 1 billion mobile MAUs, ending the quarter at 1.008 billion.
Spotify‘s Facebook application has been topping AppData‘s leaderboards for some time now. It’s the top gainer this week in monthly active users, accumulating almost 1.4 million new MAUs. Spotify has more than 32 million MAUs, and its daily active user/MAU engagement has increased 5 percent in the past week.
King.com leads the pack when it comes to the top Facebook developers. According to AppData, the social gaming company had an average of 93.5 million daily active users, giving it more than 23 percent of the market in March. Microsoft had about 26.6 million DAUs in the same time frame, with nearly 7 percent of the market. It was followed by Zynga (18.2 million DAUs), Spotify (12.4 million), and Supercell (11.3 million).
FarmVille 2, Zynga’s biggest game, has lost nearly 4 million daily active users (DAUs) in the past year. Meanwhile, Candy Crush has gained 35 million DAUs.
Zynga’s acquisition of NaturalMotion earlier this year signals a change in focus for the company. U.K.-based mobile gaming company NaturalMotion is best known for mobile games CSR Racing and Clumsy Ninja.
King.com broke 300 million month active users on Facebook Wednesday, according to AppData. That puts the newly public company at more than triple the MAUs of Zynga on the same platform. So far, King.com’s debut on the New York Stock Exchange has been rocky: Shares closed trading Wednesday at $19 each, more than 15 percent lower than the offering price.
This week brought news that social gaming company DianDian Interactive, otherwise known as FunPlus, raised $74 million in a series-B round. It’s the largest funding round for a social gaming company in nearly a decade.
