My wife is filing for divorce. My two worlds, our 7-year-old twin boys, are living with her. How did it all come to this? Facebook!
A distraught dad has taken his custody battle to Facebook. The New Mexico resident has accused the mother of his two-year-old daughter of child abuse and the graphic pictures that he’s posted on the social networking site seem to tell all.
What are recently divorced, separated or even broken up folks doing on Facebook? I’d say their antics might be fodder for cybersleuths everywhere!
Facebook does not break up marriages. People do!
In the process of getting divorced? Just be careful what you say and who you friend on Facebook — 2/3 of divorce lawyers consider Facebook the primary source for digging up compromising information.
One of the best uses of Facebook is to catch your cheating spouse! According to one law firm, over 20 percent of new divorce petitions contain references to Facebook. Mark Keenan, Managing Director of Divorce-Online said “The most common reason seemed to be people having inappropriate sexual chats with people they were not supposed to.” While I’m not sure how people get caught having inappropriate private chats with others, the technical details were not described by the law firm.
Finding out your marriage is over via Facebook may be one of the worst experiences you could have. Yet that’s exactly what happened to Emma Brady, 39, when her husband of 12 years changed his relationship status on Facebook, according to the Daily Mail. To Neil Brady’s friends, the message on their news feeds read “Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady.”
The worst part about this situation is the fact that Emma says she had no idea her marriage was in such dire straights until a friend saw Neil’s updated relationship status and called her at work to see if she was all right. It’s painful enough to go through marital problems and even a divorce. It can be just as painful to have to deal with the social consequences of divorcing, so Neil’s public denouncement of his marriage via Facebook has turned into a very humiliating situation for Emma.
