A Case Study Of Console Game Promotion Through Facebook Apps

ea-dantes-infernoIn the leadup to this week’s launch of Dante’s Inferno for XBox 360, Playstation 3 and the upcoming launch of the PSP version, EA partnered with Lolapps to successfully launch the Dante’s Inferno Facebook game. Looking at the numbers, the game has accumulated 4 million Monthly Active Users since its launch, and had had 1 million users in the week first week of the release of the Facebook Application. Lolapps was most famous for their Band of Heroes game, a Mafia Wars-style RPG with over 1,000,000 MAUs and a strong story component, but this has been eclipsed by the success of Dante’s Inferno, and represents a step forward for the company. Electronic Arts Launching Madden NFL On Facebook

-Madden NFL Icon-Coinciding with recent announcements by Playfish that they were going to bring an EA brand to Facebook, Peter Moore just announced that “Madden NFL” will be released for Facebook. The details are sparse, but Moore stated on Bloomberg Television that “we have to make Madden’ more accessible,” and “you’ll see us on Facebook going forward.”

EA recently announced their newest browser-based online game entitled Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, and it has a few interesting social features that set it apart from previous games. The main addition is Facebook Connect, which allows players to invite players to become fans of the game. It also highlights Electronic Arts ongoing push for integration with the social web.
