Nokia introduced the first model of its new family of Asha smartphones, the Nokia Asha 501, and the handset maker teamed up with Facebook and mobile carrier Airtel to announced that the latter’s customers in Africa and India would receive data-free access to the Facebook application and m.facebook.com for a limited time.
Facebook game developers Zynga, Kixeye, and Electronic Arts reached agreements with Facebook to test a new “start now” feature, that allows users to begin playing games including Zynga Slingo, Indiana Jones Adventure World, Backyard Monsters, and Battle Pirates instantly, bypassing the permissions dialog.
Coming 23 years after it established the city-building video game genre in the gaming industry, Electronic Arts announced that it will introduce a new game in its SimCity franchise, SimCity Social, on Facebook, sister blog Inside Social Games reported.

In the leadup to this week’s launch of Dante’s Inferno for XBox 360, Playstation 3 and the upcoming launch of the PSP version, EA partnered with Lolapps to successfully launch the Dante’s Inferno Facebook game. Looking at the numbers, the game has accumulated 4 million Monthly Active Users since its launch, and had had 1 million users in the week first week of the release of the Facebook Application. Lolapps was most famous for their Band of Heroes game, a Mafia Wars-style RPG with over 1,000,000 MAUs and a strong story component, but this has been eclipsed by the success of Dante’s Inferno, and represents a step forward for the company. Coinciding with recent announcements by Playfish that they were going to bring an EA brand to Facebook, Peter Moore just announced that “Madden NFL” will be released for Facebook. The details are sparse, but Moore stated on Bloomberg Television that “we have to make Madden’ more accessible,” and “you’ll see us on Facebook going forward.”

EA recently announced their newest browser-based online game entitled Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online, and it has a few interesting social features that set it apart from previous games. The main addition is Facebook Connect, which allows players to invite players to become fans of the game. It also highlights Electronic Arts ongoing push for integration with the social web.
