“Twitter owns social TV. Facebook is trying to get there.” Joseph Pigato, managing director of customer-engagement firm Sparked, spoke those words Wednesday during a panel at mediabistro’s Inside Social Marketing conference in New York, “What We Can Learn from TV’s Top Social Campaigns,” where he was joined by Sesame Workshop Director of New Media Communication Daniel N. Lewis and moderator Natan Edelsburg, vice president of Sawhorse Media and writer for mediabistro’s Lost Remote blog.
The good news about EducationSuperHighway — a nonprofit organization launched by groups including Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s Startup: Education organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation — is that its goal is to ensure that every student in the U.S. from kindergarten through grade 12 has high-speed Internet access. A total of 47 percent of Facebook users get news on the social network, trailing Reddit (62 percent) and Twitter (52 percent), but due to the size of its user base, when looking at U.S. adults overall, Facebook blows away its social network competition, with 30 percent getting news from the site, and YouTube coming in a distant second, at 10 percent, according to the latest study from Pew Research Center.

Today, I’d like to talk about what led us to this success, our first month’s progress on Facebook, and the support that the social network has offered us during the transition from mobile to social.
A study of social logins by Gigya, a Facebook Preferred Marketing Developer, arrived at conclusions similar to those in a similar study earlier this month by user-management platform Janrain: Login with Facebook is still dominant, but challengers such as Google Plus Sign-In are carving into its lead.
Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg put his money where his mouth has been in terms of support for education, as Panorama Education announced Monday that it raised $4 million in seed funding, co-led by Zuckerberg’s Startup: Education.
