The goal of Internet.org – the initiative launched in August 2013 by Facebook, Ericsson, MediaTek, Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm and Samsung — is to connect the 4.4 billion people who currently lack access to the Internet, but a mission on such a large scale is not without barriers, and a study released Wednesday by McKinsey & Co., “Offline and Falling Behind: Barriers to Internet Adoption” (embedded below), examines those barriers.
The Middle East region is more mobile-friendly than you might think, as a recent study by global market research agency Ipsos, commissioned by Facebook, found that 43 percent of respondents in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates use at least one other device while watching television, with that figure soaring to 76 percent when isolating the UAE.
Facebook Releases Second Global Government Requests Report, Adds Requests To Restrict, Remove Content
Facebook announced the release of the second edition of its Global Government Requests Report, and this time around, it added government requests to restrict or remove content to the information it previously provided on government requests for account information.
Facebook continued its Valentine’s Day week series of studies by the Facebook Data Science Team with a look at the age differences in opposite-sex relationships on the social network, with information mined from anonymized, aggregated data on users with average ages of between 20 and 49.

This week’s edition featured the photo to the left of Leonardo DiCaprio, after he was named best actor at Sunday night’s Golden Globes Awards; as well as the photo atop the post of actress Jennifer Lawrence photo-bombing singer Taylor Swift while she was being interviewed by E! Entertainment Television Host Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, also at the Golden Globes.
