How PromoJam Stacks Up As A Facebook Apps PMD

We continue to hear from companies that have just joined or extended their certifications in Facebook’s regrouped marketing program.

PromoJam joined Facebook’s preferred marketing developer program upon the social network’s announcement of it. The Los Angeles-based vendor’s Chief Executive Officer Matt Matt MacNaughton, told us about how his company stacks up against the other 231 outfits now enjoying this form of thumbs up.

Which of the four badges does PromoJam have?

We are an apps badge holder.

What was the process that PromoJam went through to get the PMD badge?

We applied to the [predecessor] preferred developer consultant program in November and it was a detailed set of questions and criteria that we submitted to the Facebook team to review. It included access to our platform, a detailed deck explaining our services, the types of clients we work with, the types of promotions we build and results our platform has returned for clients.

How does the PMD change the way PromoJam will do business?

Being a PMD member fundamentally changes the way we do business in that we now act as confidants between our clients and Facebook. We’ve been given access to the leading edge of Facebook’s API access points and marketing guidelines so that we can provide our customers best-in-class capabilities and insights.

How does PromoJam differ from the other companies that have apps badges? Who do you view as your closest competitors, and what do they do differently than you do?

PromoJam’s software platform stands out from the rest due to our cross-platform technology that allows our clients to easily run promotions, both online and on the mobile phone across multiple social networks. We power social promotions for many of the biggest companies and names in entertainment, including NBC Universal, Clear Channel Radio and Dwight Howard.

We specialize in engagement-driven promotions across multiple networks both online and on the mobile phone, where other companies like Buddy Media and Wildfire focus the majority of their efforts on data collection or Facebook page management. We have a flexible suite of services that enable our clients to reach their customers across multiple networks wherever they exist — both online and mobile.

What else would you like to tell our readers about PromoJam?

I founded PromoJam with my sister Amanda MacNaughton in 2008 to create new and engaging ways for brands and their fans or customers to engage with each other. (This is actually our second business together — the first was a dog-walking business we started when we were kids in our local neighborhood during elementary school.)

We believe in building innovative technology that empowers fans to easily share messages and experience brands in new and meaningful ways. The Facebook platform creates an incredible ecosystem of sharing, and PromoJam is extremely proud to be brought into the ranks of the PMD program.

PromoJam is a leading enterprise social marketing technology platform that provides businesses with a dashboard and full suite of tools to easily build, launch, and track social media promotions across multiple social networks, both online and on the mobile phone. The company is dedicated to building innovating technology solutions that help people connect in new and engaging ways.

Since its launch, PromoJam has served promotions to over 10 million users and has amassed an array of blue chip clients including Hearst Publications, HitFix, Expedia, Avon, Warner Brothers Music Group, Blackberry, Paramount Pictures, The North Face, and Rihanna. Links to some cool promos follow (Editor’s note: The first one is directly on Facebook and the rest are websites using the social network’s plugins):

PREVIEW: Facebook Factors Into Most SXSW Events

It’s that time of year again, when Facebook news feeds become clogged with posts from the hipster enclave of Austin, Texas, otherwise known as the home of the annual South by Southwest festival.

While the technology portion of SXSW runs from March 9 through March 13, 2012, social media factors into nearly all of the 5,000-plus events, including the music and film sessions.

Using the official SXSW Facebook page, we’ve culled highlights from among the various panels, talks and parties.

@TV Engagement: Does Social Media Drive TV Ratings?

Friday, March 9, 2 p.m., Omni Downtown, Capital Ballroom

This panel will explore (and hopefully answer) what is the measurement of success in multi-screen viewing.

The Future Of Social Lounge

Friday, March 9, 1 p.m.

IBM is hosting this half-day event that explores question, “How socially forward is your business?”

But Hasn’t Politics Always Been Social?

Sunday, March 11, 12:30 p.m AT&T Conference Hotel, Salon B

Facebook D.C. is heading to Austin to lead this session, which aims to explain why “social” isn’t a new phenomenon and how 2012 can become the year of the “social campaign.”

Apps And Beer With Facebook

Monday, March 12, 3 p.m., Invite Only, Facebook’s Austin headquarters

This invitation-only event doesn’t promise to make news, but does offer beer, food, and of course, “apps” and partners.

5 Reasons You Should Stop Investing In Facebook

Monday, March 12, 11:15 a.m., Hyatt Regency Austin, Texas Ballroom 4-7

The schedule describes Facebook brand pages as resembling, “online ghost towns with engagement that consists of mere small talk and fake smiles.”To make matters worse, Facebook went from a friendly handhold to a ruthless chokehold of world-wide-web domination.

Pinterest Speaks Up

Tuesday, March 13,11 a.m., Austin Convention Center, Ballroom D

Just added to the schedule is Pinterest founder Ben Silberman. He will be interviewed by Chris Dixon, co-founder and CEO of Hutch.

Social Media Band Camp

Wednesday, March 14, 2 p.m., Austin Convention Center, Ballroom G

This panel discussion talks about how to promote music using social media.
There are myriad Facebook pages devoted to every aspect of SXSW, from parties to music and everything in between.
What are your SXSW plans, readers?

Now you, too, can try to put Baby in the corner by playing Dirty Dancing, a new Facebook game to be launched later this month by developer Social Game Universe.

Even though 24 years have elapsed since the namesake movie, the Dirty Dancing page on Facebook has more than 10 million fans, more than what numerous more recent blockbusters enjoy; apparently it’s never too late to monetize a popular brand on the social network.

So the game Dirty Dancing uses pixel art in an attempt to bring back the feel of the 1987 film of the same name, and components of the game include:

Hey, Baby: Characters representing game players and their friends learn and rehearse dance moves alongside Dirty Dancing characters including Baby and Johnny, unlocking new levels with each successful performance.

Love Is Strange: Players wander around Kellerman’s resort and drop cupid-style grenades called “Romance Waves,” which cause gets to fall in love and stay longer, to the tune of songs from the movie’s soundtrack, including “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Hungry Eyes.”

The pixel art gives the game a neat, retro feel, and players are encouraged to add and invite friends at virtually every break in play, so Dirty Dancing clearly takes advantage of the social aspect of Facebook.

Users collect money by performing certain tasks, such as enticing guests to stay longer using the Romance Waves mentioned above, and checking in cars and the guests they are carrying.

The money can buy attractions, decorations, and more lodges for the resort, and to unlock dancers. Facebook Credits can also be used to purchase watermelons, which serve as currency in the game, by using the actual currency of players (as in, their credit cards).

The guide — players choose Baby or Johnny at the beginning of play — is helpful throughout game play, and he or she constantly prompts users to take actions, keeping the game moving.

There’s a lot to digest when playing for the first time, but Baby or Johnny are there every step of the way.

Bottom line: If you’re a Dirty Dancing fan, you will definitely enjoy the Dirty Dancing game on Facebook, and even if the movie wasn’t one of your favorites, all of the different elements in the game should keep you interested.

Readers: Do you expect to have the time of your life when the Dirty Dancing game is officially released on Facebook later this month?
