Last week, Facebook entered the gift card market with the Facebook Card — a new addition to Facebook Gifts. Unlike other gift card options offered by Gifts, this is a plastic card that can be used at Target, Sephora, Jamba Juice, and Olive Garden. Noah Mallin, vice president of social media for brand agency Digitas, thinks that the Facebook Card could be a very powerful way that brands learn more about users’ spending habits, and it could also revolutionize mobile ads.
Facebook users love listening to their favorite talk radio shows and podcasts on Stitcher Radio. The program has a strong presence on mobile devices, but announced Wednesday that it has improved the desktop experience and deepened its Facebook integration, allowing users’ listening choices to seamlessly connect with their profile.
Want to let your utilities company know that the power is out? There’s a Facebook app for that. Chicago-based ComEd announced Tuesday that it has released a Facebook application that allows customers to report power outages. By clicking on the “Report an Outage,” tab on ComEd’s Facebook page, users can let the company know when and where they’ve lost power. Users can also check on the status of outages through the app, which ComEd claims is the first of its kind.
Apple’s iOS 6 will come with more Facebook integration for the iPhone and iPad. Luckily for iPhone users, the next version of the Facebook app will also be faster, according to The New York Times‘ technology blog, Bits.
