Facebook has begun to promote its own events — such as the exclusive premiere of the video for “Gorilla” from Bruno Mars on the social network, and retired soccer superstar David Beckham’s digital book signing and question-and-answer session on Facebook Digital Stadium — with notifications that are sent only to users who like the corresponding Facebook pages.

Facebook Weekly Highlights features photos posted to the social network by celebrities and athletes. This week’s edition featured the photo on the homepage by Phil D’Auria Photography, in which “Jersey Shore” cast member Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino recognized the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy with a photo of the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, N.J. ; as well as the photo above of musician Sheryl Crow signing Gibson guitars in her driveway.
Retired soccer superstar David Beckham will simultaneously sign copies of his new photo book in London, New York, São Paulo, and Hyderabad, India. How? While Beckham may have been able to bend it, it’s hardly possible for him to be in four cities at once: He will dish out personalized digital signatures to select fans via a partnership with Facebook.
