Facebook reached 1.15 billion monthly active users as of June 30, up 21 percent compared with the second quarter of 2012, while daily active users were up 27 percent to 699 million, and mobile MAUs leaped by 51 percent to 819 million, the company reported as part of its second-quarter financial results.
Facebook for Every Phone, the application that brings the social network to feature phones, or devices that are not smartphones, announced that it has topped 100 million monthly active users.
As more users access Facebook from their mobile phone, it’s not always a smartphone. Now Facebook has made it easier for companies to target ads to people using feature phones. Sister site Inside Facebook noted that the Power Editor and Ads Application Programming Interface (API) includes better options for targeting ads at feature phone users only.
Facebook announced partnerships with 18 mobile operators in 14 countries aimed at providing users with free or discounted data access for its Messenger for Android, Messenger for iOS, and Facebook for Every Phone mobile applications.
More people access Facebook from their phones (and tablets) than on desktop, but that figure isn’t limited to iPhones, Androids, and BlackBerrys. Many people all over the world check their Facebook from feature phones, and it shows. Facebook For Every Phone, the official page for Facebook’s feature phone application, passed 200 million likes Tuesday and shows little signs of slowing.
Celebrities had a great year on Facebook in 2012. Rihanna rose up the page charts to be the most popular human-based page on the social network, and several athletes saw their likes go up considerably around the time of the Olympic Games in London. However, Facebook’s popularity among those who don’t have iPhones or Android devices made Facebook for Every Phone the most popular page in 2012, according to Quintly.
