Facebook Sued for Private Cyberbully Group

Cyberbullying is nothing new on the web, especially when it comes to social networks. But one Oceonside teenager is fighting back, suing not only four former high school classmates and their parents, but Facebook as well. According to Newsday, Denise Finkel has brought this cyberbullying case, filed in the State Supreme Court in Manhattan, for $3 million. Finkel claims that she was cyberbullied in a private forum on Facebook.

Now a student at the University at Albany, Finkel has named four former classmates as the bullies that created a private group on Facebook with the intention of bashing on Finkel claiming that she participated in bestiality as well as contracted AIDS.

Want to Hire a Political Assassin? Don't Start a Facebook Group

Facebook removed a group this week, citing that the group was promoting hateful attitudes, according to The New York Times. 20-year-old Bolivian Facebook user Hony Pierola created a Spanish-language group asking others to help raise money so a gunman could be hired to “liquidate” Bolivia’s leftist president Evo Morales. It was only until the group, called “Global collection to hire a sharpshooter to liquidate Evo Morales,” gained over 8,000 members and racked up nearly 500 hateful postings that the group gained the attention of the AP, which reported the group to Facebook.

Less than 90 minutes later the group, which bore a description reading “We need to get the money to inspire someone to do it,” was removed.

Facebook Group for Purple Tunnel of Doom Gets Authority's Attention

-Epic Fail Photo-While many of you sat at home and watched last week’s inauguration on the television, on live streaming video online or even on Facebook, there were still countless numbers of those that braved the cold to see Obama sworn in person. And many of those that were there at the inauguration with tickets for the event but were still unable to enter the event itself.

A recent Facebook Group created for those that were unable to access the inaugural event, called “Survivors of the Purple Tunnel of Doom,” has gained over 5,000 members. While the number of members this group has isn’t directly reflective of those that were actually at the event, it is indicative of the overall attitude some hold towards a number of situations that may have prevented some from entering the inaugural event.
