Facebook announced a thorough revamp of its Slingshot photo- and video-sharing application, including photo filters, the ability to follow users and automatically see their shots, private photo and video reactions to shots and the option to share shots on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and other apps.
With more than 10,000 different Android devices being used to access Facebook by some 500 million users, how does the social network ensure that those users are getting the best experience on their devices? The second application from Facebook Creative Labs, Slingshot, was officially released Tuesday after a brief cameo last week, and what is being billed as the social network’s answer to Snapchat is available for iPhones running iOS 7 via the iTunes App Store, and for Android devices running Jelly Bean and KitKat via Google Play.
One of the oft-expressed complaints about Facebook involves its traditional process of staggering the rollouts of new products, such as Graph Search and its redesigned News Feed. However, users who access the social network via Android devices can now access the latest versions of the flagship Facebook application prior to their release to the general public thanks to Thursday’s launch of the Facebook for Android beta-testing program.
