Facebook appears to be testing expanded availability of emoticons in status updates independent of those available via the menu of emoticons and actions it began rolling out to users last month, as some users are finding that they can add their own emoticons to status updates, independent of the menu, but those emoticons are only appearing on their Timelines, and not on the News Feed.

Facebook has allowed advertisers to incorporate polls into their sponsored stories since late 2011, but some readers are seeing a new variation that incorporates a sliding scale, rather than multiple choice answers.

A new episode of Fox series “The Following,” starring Kevin Bacon, aired at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT Monday, and some Facebook users saw sponsored stories in their news feeds roughly one hour earlier, prompting them to tune in.

Facebook wants to know if you have any questions for its Global Marketing Solutions team, and is prompting page administrators to that effect on their homepages.
