Facebook and its Parse cloud-application platform are set to invade Austin, Texas, for South By Southwest, complete with the Parse + Facebook ice cream truck, and the social network published a schedule of Facebook and Parse SXSW events and talks in a post on its developer blog.
The City of New York launched its second annual #LoveNYC Instagram and Twitter photo contest, this time expanding its reach to Facebook since the social network started using hashtags.
Residents can upload their photos showcasing their favorite aspects of the city’s five boroughs under the hashtag #LoveNYC for a chance to serve as an “Instagram Ambassador” for the city’s official Instagram account. The city will pick the top four photos from each borough to display in a digital exhibit at the New York Public Library in late September.
While countless businesses and brands are using Facebook’s platform for profit, many others are utilizing the social network for a selfless cause. Facebook recently pointed out a few organizations that are making a positive difference while using open graph technology.
