Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg wasn’t joking about “building separate mobile applications beyond the main Facebook app” during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call Wednesday, as Paper was announced just a few hours after the call ended.
When Facebook introduced Graph Search in January, it was perceived as a threat to social reviewing site Yelp. Despite that — or possibly because of it — Yelp is interested in teaming up with Facebook.
It’s well-known that more people are accessing Facebook on mobile devices, and the trend is definitely not lost among the site’s younger users. According to a study from Macquarie Research, 56 percent of users between ages 15 and 25 surveyed said they check Facebook from their phones, up from 24 percent last year. Macquarie feels that this could rise to 70 percent next year.
