Pitching Facebook as a startup is hard, though. New Facebook features create a virtual gold rush for platform developers. New Facebook application-programming-interface features enable new ways to monetize virtual goods in social games, for example. New Facebook ads features create new ways to target advertising to specific users — audience segments like “everyone who has purchased virtual goods on Facebook” — creating huge opportunities for those who move to monetize first.

As we’ve been anticipating over the past few weeks, Facebook has officially launched a new product called “Insights For Your Domain”. The product, which received no formal announcement during the f8 keynote or press conference, enables developers to track activities including the number of users, the volume of content shared, and the response time of a developer’s website.

5 Features Facebook Should Add To Their New Email Product

According to Mike Arrington, Facebook is preparing to roll out its own email client, code named “Titan”. We’ve suggested to Facebook in the past that they roll out an email client as they have an opportunity to redefine the product. Additionally, Paul Bucheit, the lead developer of Gmail, is now an employee of Facebook which means he may have another opportunity to redefine the email experience (update: Paul Bucheit denies that he will be creating an email app at Facebook).
