-Facebook Advertising Icon-A new report from eMarketer yesterday suggests that over $1.2 billion will be spent on advertising on Facebook. That spending accounts for the vast majority of the $1.68 billion that will be spent on advertising across all social networks. The rapid growth illustrates a number of things however the most obvious is that Facebook is completely dominating social advertising expenditures as well as that 2010 may just be the year that social media advertising becomes more mainstream. eMarketers projections also suggests that at the current rate, social network advertising will not generate the breakthrough revenues that Facebook is in search of.

The reason was that I had effectively crashed a bunch of servers and resulting from database tables that were storing too much data. 39 Percent Of Facebook Users In U.S., U.K., And Australia Donate To Haiti

A whopping 39 percent of Facebook users in the U.S., U.K., and Australia have already donated money or goods to the relief efforts in Haiti according to a joint survey between Facebook and Nielsen. The vast majority of these users, approximately 32 percent, have donated money, whereas 3 percent have donated goods. Approximately 3 percent have donated both goods and money.

-Active Network Sizes-The Facebook data team has published an interesting note about some research they’ve conducted which explores whether or not Facebook is in fact increasing the size of our networks. While Facebook has become an extremely efficient communication tool, does it help us stay in contact better with our existing contacts or is it more efficient at expanding our networks? The results are interesting. According to Facebook, “while the average Facebook user communicates with a small subset of their entire friend network, they maintain relationships with a group two times the size of this core.”
