We all know that Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is one of the richest people in America, but he’s also one of the most generous. The Chronicle of Philanthropy announced Monday that Zuckerberg (along with his wife, Priscilla Chan) was the second-biggest American philanthropist in 2012, behind Warren Buffett.

As part of the expansion agreement Facebook reached with its headquarters city of Menlo Park, Calif., the social network agreed to create a $500,000 foundation. Facebook added $100,000 to that total Tuesday and announced grants of $2,500 to $5,000 to 42 nonprofit organizations in Menlo Park and East Palo Alto, Calif.
The latest and largest charitable donation by Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla, will go to an organization a little closer to home, as Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook page that the Silicon Valley Community Foundation will receive 18 million Facebook shares.
