Facebook announced in a post on its developer blog that the migration to the new format for mobile application ads is underway, and the social network offered some best practices and unveiled a new tool, the app ads helper.
King.com leads the pack when it comes to the top Facebook developers. According to AppData, the social gaming company had an average of 93.5 million daily active users, giving it more than 23 percent of the market in March. Microsoft had about 26.6 million DAUs in the same time frame, with nearly 7 percent of the market. It was followed by Zynga (18.2 million DAUs), Spotify (12.4 million), and Supercell (11.3 million).
King.com‘s Candy Crush Saga has enjoyed a consistent spot as the top-grossing application on iOS since March 2013. However, the game’s reign seems to have ended. Supercell‘s Clash of Clans has been the top-grossing app on iOS since February. In the past week, Clash of Clans has raked in more than $7 million in revenue, according to AppData. Candy Crush Saga earned about $6.1 million in the same time period.
Facebook is exploring another source of mobile monetization, working with smaller game developers to offer distribution of their games via mobile ads in exchange for a percentage of revenue, according to a report in TechCrunch.
After capturing the attention of Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, SongPop from FreshPlanet also captured the top spot on Facebook’s list of the 25 top-rated social games of 2012.
Facebook prides itself on being the social network. One of the main ways the site has facilitated connections is through games. Facebook discussed with select members of the press Thursday what makes them successful and how this platform will evolve in the future, using examples such as SongPop and Words with Friends to show how games transcend pixels.
