Game developer Zynga and Facebook, once virtually intertwined, continue to drift further apart from each other, as Zynga announced in a post on its blog that while login with Facebook will still be an option for game players, it will no longer be a requirement starting next week.

Perry Campaign Adds Donate Your Status Facebook App

Supporters of Texas Republican Governor Rick Perry have a new Facebook app to let their friends know all about their feelings for the 2012 presidential contender.

The campaign recently unveiled the Donate Your Status app to the official Rick Perry Facebook page, the framing the release as one way supporters can “help get America working again.”

The app’s release comes on the heels of a busy month of debates for the Republican candidates, where the spotlight shone bright on Governor Perry.

We don’t have numbers on how many Perry supporters have shared their status on Facebook, however, Governor Perry’s Facebook page has more than 165,000 likes, and the message from the campaign announcing the app generated nearly 1,000 comments.

Here’s a sampling of some of the comments that were shared on the campaign’s official site.

Facebook Boots Sex Offenders, Could Receive Aid from Texas

A new bill is being proposed in Texas in order to push state and federal efforts for child protective services online. According to ABC News, Texas’ Attorney General Greg Abbott, U.S. Senator John Cornyn, and U.S. Representative Lamar Smith have announced the SAFETY Act of 2009. The bill would enable further cooperation between the state and online destination sites for creating a safer environment for children on the web.

As the law currently stands, convicted sex offenders have to provide certain information about themselves, including their name and physical address. This information is made public, in a database that’s accessible by anyone. The proposed SAFETY Act of 2009 would up the ante, requiring convicted sex offenders t provide their email addresses, mobile telephone numbers, social networking aliases and other electronic information to the state’s Department of Public Safety. Unlike the information they already have to give to the state, the electronic information would no be available to the public. The data would be utilized by the state and online social networks like MySpace and Facebook to help screen new and existing users for cross-reference.
