Facebook has company in the billionaires’ club, as Google-owned video site YouTube announced in a post on its blog that it has reached 1 billion unique monthly users. Of course, Facebook had 1.06 billion monthly active users as of Dec. 31, 2012, and MAUs are more specific than unique users. But 1 billion is still an impressive number.

For many people, Facebook is the first site they log into every morning and the last thing they check before going to bed. All of that time can really add up. Law firm Morrison Foerster, through its Socially Aware blog, found out that people spend upwards of six hours per month on Facebook, far more than any other social media site. It also discovered that 29 percent of people surveyed watch TV while they check Facebook.
The Facebook Marketing page released an infographic to show just how addicted users are to the site. The plan was to show advertisers how they’ve got a captive audience on the social network, illustrating Facebook’s high level of engagement, membership, and return on investment. The site’s 955 million users spend an average of six hours and 35 minutes per month on Facebook’s desktop site, posting 3.2 billion likes and comments every day.
