FWD.us, the political advocacy group spearheaded by Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, suffered two defections over the weekend: Space Exploration Technologies CEO and Tesla Motors Co-Founder Elon Musk, and Yammer Co-Founder and CEO David Sacks.
Social-media-management platform HootSuite has a new vice president of marketing: Dee Anna McPherson, who previously held the same post at enterprise social network Yammer, a HootSuite App Directory integration partner.
Facebook has been sitting on a gold mine: users’ information. Up until now, the company has used this to target ads within the site. But now, Facebook could soon launch an external ad network, using data from within the social network. For instance, information from your interests and likes could be used to create targeted ads on websites away from Facebook. It’s not yet known exactly what this could look like, but Emergence Capital General Partner Kevin Spain talked with AllFacebook about how it would change online advertising.
Despite the emergence of Facebook and other social networks as valuable sales, marketing, and communications tools for businesses, a recent study of 550 chief information officers, IT directors and managers, and network managers in Europe found that 67 percent of them still block Facebook.
At the Techcrunch Disrupt conference today in San Francisco Yammer announced the launch of a redesign (which is identical to Facebook) and a Platform which lets developers build applications on top of the product. It’s an impressive product in that it has literally become the enterprise Facebook. David Sacks, the founder of the company, also announced a Questions product which literally duplicates Facebook’s existing questions product.
