Season Of Giving: Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan Behind 2013’s Largest U.S. Philanthropic Donation

SiliconValleyCommunityFoundationLogo650Facebook Co-Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, were responsible for the largest individual philanthropic donation in the U.S. in 2013 with their gift of 18 million class-A shares of Facebook stock to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, which was valued at more than $992.2 million, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, as reported by The Tech Chronicles.

According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the Zuckerbergs were the first philanthropists under the age of 30 to top its list.

Zuckerberg and Chan donated the same amount of shares to the SVCF last year, but Facebook’s share price was far lower at the time.

The Zuckerbergs were followed on The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s list by:

  • Nike Chairman Phil Knight and his wife, Penelope.
  • Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
  • Former Franklin Resources Chairman Charles B. Johnson.
