How Facebook Is Treating Name Days Like Birthdays

TodaysNameDays650Facebook continues to treat users’ name days the same way it treats their birthdays, as some users are seeing notifications for name days in the right-hand-corner of their News Feeds, right above birthdays.

Reader Thodoris Konsoulas shared the screenshot above, as well as a screenshot last week of Facebook prompting him to add his name day.

Name Day is not particularly well-known in the U.S., as it is more of a tradition in some European and Latin American countries, where days on the calendar correspond with specific names, often having to do with saints, depending on location and religion. Name Day is often celebrated in the same way that birthdays are. Konsoulas is from Greece.
