When Facebook crossed the 500 million user milestone, they celebrated with the launch of a new product called “Facebook stories“. The product was well received and the employees of Facebook were pretty excited about the launch. Two days ago Twitter launched “Twitter Tales”, a product which is essentially a direct copy of Facebook Stories. To say the least, there are a number of Facebook employees who weren’t happy about it.

It’s not that Twitter doesn’t deserve to have recognition for affecting millions of humans around the world, it’s just that they chose to display things in a way that’s almost identical to Facebook weeks after Facebook stories first launched. Also right now there is a clear distinction in that the stories are not yet user-generated. This is how Facebook originally started with stories though, highlighting each interesting story via the Facebook blog.

In the near future we’d expect Twitter to push out more stories and eventually make the product more interactive, however we’d also expect the company to continue to frustrate Facebook employees!
