U.K. Gains Nearly 5M Facebook Users In Past Month

Our friends at AllFacebook Stats brought up an interesting question when looking at the Facebook country statistics for this month: How much are the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games contributing to the surge in U.K. Facebook users?

A post on the AllFacebook Stats Blog pointed out that the total number of Facebook users in the U.K. has jumped nearly 16 percent over the past month, meaning that more than one-half of the U.K. population is on the social network.

Of course, the U.K. is also hosting the Olympics, which have been very social media-friendly, but, having said that, can it be possible that the Games are responsible for nearly 5 million new U.K. Facebook users?

Readers: How much of a factor do you think the Olympics have been in the spike in U.K. Facebook users, and what else may be contributing to it?
