Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner is trying to answer the question on the minds of many Americans about where the jobs are, with a new Facebook application launched this week.
The application features a multimedia presentation complete with the detailed plan that can be downloaded, and a one-page summary titled, “The House Republican’s Plan for America’s Job Creators.”
This plan’s stated goals include:
- Empower small business owners and reduce regulatory burdens.
- Increase American competitiveness to spur investment and create more American jobs, by streamlining the tax code and lowering the tax rate for all businesses and individuals to no more than 25 percent.
- Maximize domestic energy production to ensure an energy policy for the 21st century.
- Pay down America’s unsustainable debt burden and start living within our means.
This week’s launch is part of the growing movement in Congress to leverage social media channels to make or break news. It’s a medium that can be managed more easily than the media, and allows a base of support to engage more directly with leaders than a standard web page would allow.
Readers, what do you think when members of the U.S. Congress use Facebook in this way?
