University Of North Alabama Schools The Field In Facebook Engagement

The University of North Alabama may not have the enrollment or national following of schools such as Ole Miss, Nebraska, or Marquette, but it has bettered them in one category: Facebook engagement.

According to Varsity Outreach, UNA had the most engagement on any post from any college so far this year. It was a photo honoring an alumnus who had passed away, entertainer George Lindsey. Varsity Outreach’s metrics take into account comments, shares, likes, and number of fans.

This post by UNA earned an engagement score of 2,173, by far the most engaging post so far this year. It was liked 1,096 times, shared 19,998 times, and earned 476 comments. The next-highest post was made by Regis University, with a score of 777.

UNA was also named the most engaging Facebook university page among those with 20,000 to 74,999 fans.

Jeremy Britten, the college’s Web communications manager, wrote in an email about UNA’s commitment to engagement on Facebook:

It’s easy for a fan to like your post, but they become more deeply engaged when they share your post with their friends or start a dialogue with you or other fans of your page. People use our Facebook page to feel involved with UNA and a part of our university community. It’s really an extension of the physical community we have on campus every day, but just as important. It’s a way of feeling connected, even if not present.
