VIDEO: Bloomberg Goes Inside Facebook’s Boot Camp For New Engineers

Before engineers at Facebook touch a single line of code, they go through boot camp, and Jon Erlichman of Bloomberg West got an inside look at the process, speaking with David Recordon, engineering manager at the social network, and fellow Engineering Manager Charu Gupta, who brought the added perspective of having worked at Google prior to Facebook.

Recordon told Erlichman of new engineers at Facebook:

We hooked them up with mentors. They go through a series of talks that help them learn about different aspects of our site. We give them some real tasks to start working on.

And Gupta added:

By that time, you’re an employee at Facebook. We trust you. We’ve opened up the kimono, we’ve told you all of the greatest, coolest things. Right? And you have an opportunity to get on to those teams if that’s where your passion is. And I have not seen that at any other company, including Google.
