Facebook Debuts Video From San Francisco Pride 2012 Parade For National Coming Out Day

Facebook did not hide its support of the gay community ahead of National Coming Out Day Thursday, posting a recap video from the San Francisco Pride 2012 Parade on the Facebook Diversity page Wednesday night.

The video shows hundreds of Facebook employees, along with friends and family, marching to support Gay@Facebook during the Pride Parade in June. Employees were proudly decked out in Facebook T-shirts representing the colors of the rainbow flag, while literally dancing in the streets and handing out stickers and other goodies with messages, such as, “Pride Connects.”

The energy, as you will see in the video below, is definitely palpable. One employee who spoke on camera made the connection between Facebook and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride this way:

Be your authentic self on Facebook and in life.

It makes sense for Facebook to be involved in LGBT issues, and not just because of the company’s proximity to San Francisco, one of the nation’s largest hubs of Pride activity. As this post explains, members of the LGBT community often use Facebook to come out to family and friends. A quick search of online resources for the LGBT community confirms that fact. There are also a host of dating apps for the LGBT community on Facebook, which makes the social network central to this demographic.

Facebook was recognized for its work with LBGT users on issues ranging from diversity to bullying prevention with a Special Recognition Award from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation during the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards in May.
