Facebook Now Counting Viral Shares In Some Pages’ People Talking About This Totals

The tweak to people talking about this numbers by including viral shares, first reported two weeks ago, has gone live.

Sister blog Inside Facebook reported that some pages are seeing huge PTAT increases as a result of the change, including George Takei and Jesus Daily, which routinely see their posts shared thousands of times.

A source close to Facebook described the methodology to us May 25:

We are going to begin counting viral shares of page posts into a page’s PTAT number. This means that if you post on your page and Jane reshares that post, any likes, comments, or shares resulting from Jane’s reshare will be counted into your page’s PTAT level. For this reason, you may notice that your page’s PTAT number increases. We are always looking for more ways to make page insights more robust.

Readers: Have you noticed inflated PTAT numbers on any of the pages you frequent?
