Jeff Kanter, Facebook’s news feed ad product manager, told TechCrunch why the company is considering the change:

We’ve learned a lot this year and are continuing to learn. We’ve found that the news feed ads experience is pretty different from the right-column ads experience we’ve been working on for many years now, and we have already made a bunch of adjustments.
