Facebook VP Of Finance Cipora Herman Leaves To Become CFO Of San Francisco 49ers

Nothing about working in the finance area of Facebook suggests that it is a career steppingstone with the ultimate goal of landing a job with the National Football League’s San Francisco 49ers, but former Vice President of Finance Cipora Herman joined the football team as chief financial officer, following former Facebook CFO Gideon Yu, who was named the club’s president last year.

According to Fortune, Herman was No. 2 on the social network’s finance team, and she was instrumental in setting up its initial public offering. Fortune added that Yu hired Herman for the third time, as the two executives worked together at Yahoo prior to their stints at Facebook.

Yu said in an internal memo sent to 49ers staff Monday evening, as reported by Fortune:

At Facebook, (Herman) was instrumental in setting up their financial operations and completing numerous financings, including their recent IPO. She also held positions at Hewlett-Packard and Seibel Systems. More important, Cipora is a huge sports fan — both of the 49ers and of the Boston Celtics. She has two wonderful children (Sarah and David) and is married to Vlado (former CFO of Yelp).

And Herman added:

This is a dream job. After five years at Facebook, rolling up my sleeves through a lot of the formative years of the company, it was just the right transition point for me. The 49ers are a storied franchise, and there’s a lot more brand-building that can happen there.

Herman became the latest name on the list of high-profile executives to leave Facebook since its IPO, and that list seems to be expanding daily.
