For the next 12 days, Facebook users can go to Walmart’s page and click on the “Live Better” tab to nominate nonprofit organizations making a difference in their local communities, with different themes each day, including hunger, military assistance, and disaster relief.
Facebook users can nominate their charitable organizations of choice by submitting 200-word descriptions, including the organizations’ impact in their local communities, and photos. A panel from Walmart will select the winners, and those groups will receive portions of a $1.5 million grant from the retailer. Winners will be announced on Facebook and Twitter Dec. 10 through 21.
Walmart Foundation President Sylvia Mathews Burwell said:
There are so many local nonprofits making a positive impact every day, and yet oftentimes, we don’t hear enough about them or their needs. With this campaign, we want to recognize these organizations and the difference they are making in their communities. This holiday season, we are asking and depending on consumers to tell us about the organizations in their communities who need our support. Together, we can help more people who need it most.
