WalMart And Best Buy To Carry Facebook Credits Gift Cards

-Facebook Credits Cards-Next time you’re casually strolling the aisles of Best Buy and the urge to stock up on fertile hens for your online farm strikes you, you may not have to wait. Beginning this week, in-store gift cards redeemable for Facebook Credits will be made available in denominations of $10, $25, and $50 at Best Buy and $5, $10, and $25 at WalMart. WalMart.com will also offer a special $50 card.

As we’ve mentioned before, Facebook Credits are a virtual currency used to buy virtual goods in tons of games and applications. Here’s an exhaustive list. Up until now, purchasing Facebook Credits required getting up from the computer, hunting down your wallet, pulling out a credit card, and committing to a purchase online. Facebook Credits is already relatively successful, but this move to the brick-and-mortar arena will only expand the product’s reach.

This isn’t groundbreaking marketing, folks. It’s a tried and true method to increase customer exposure to your product. Think prepaid cell phones, which offer an easy entry for customers who don’t want to bother with contracts or plans (and which WalMart sells, too). Facebook hopes to capture the “oh, what the hell?” demographic, those who’d otherwise never pull out the credit card to explicitly buy virtual currency at home but who would toss a couple gift cards in the shopping cart “since they’re already buying all this other stuff.”

Here’s betting they keep the Facebook Credit gift cards right next to checkout, and judging from the amount of Big League Chew I used to buy (or convince my mom to buy) at checkout, I think that will prove a successful strategy.
