WATCH: Print Books Become Facebook Applications

Smartphones, videogames, cable TV and the Internet may be keeping young people from developing a fondness for reading books. But a publisher from Portugal has a solution: turn and e-book into a series of Facebook profiles, status updates and wall posts.

That’s what Leya Publishing Company’s F-book does. The application creates Facebook profiles for each character, who invites readers to become friends and read updates. Dialogues between characters become wall-to-wall exchanges.

Call me biased by a serious love of books but this offering sounds pretty gimmicky — and I wonder whether this format would be easy to follow.
